Third National Seed Sector Platform meeting
The third National Seed Sector Platform Meeting was dedicated in “Public-Private Collaboration for Seed Sector Development”. The specific event was started with opening speech delivered by Deputy Director General of Department of Agriculture (DOA) and he highlighted it is a challenging for public sector to carry out seed production to marketing and therefore he mentioned, it is more practical to invite private sector to take care of seed distribution and marketing onwards. Afterwards, DYDG of Department of Agricultural Research (DAR) addressed a keynote speech on 5 models of public-private collaboration in seed industry.
The meeting was hold on 17th of May, 2018 at Park Royal Hotel, Naypyitaw. The 28 participants from development partners, 22 participants from private sector and 30 participants from public sector attended the event. Viewing this event, outcomes of National Seed Committee on seed regulatory review proposals, updates of Plant Variety Protection (PVP) in Myanmar and best practices in seed sector risk monitoring were presented by Daw San Kyi (Head of Seed Law Unit, Seed Division, DOA), Daw Pa Pa Win (Head of PVP section, DAR) and Augustine Langyintuo (International Finance Coorporation-World Bank Group) respectively in the morning session. In the afternoon breakout session, the aforementioned topics were discussed in detail by the participants in each group and plenary presentation with feedback from the group was continued. The meeting was successfully ended with closing remark by Frederik Heijink, Agricultural Counselor, Embassy of Kingdom of the Netherlands.
