TRAINING COURSE OF EGS PRODUCTION, CHARACTERISTICS OF DIFFERENT VARIETIES AND QUALITY CONTROL ON GREEN GRAM AND GROUNDNUT CROPS
Under the ISSD Myanmar Programme, component 2 conducted training course on EGS Production, Characteristics of different Varieties and Quality Control on Green gram and Groundnut Crops on 22nd August 2019, in Mandalay.
The purpose of the training is to enhance capacity development of Seed Producer Groups who are engaged in EGS production and distribution to multiply certified seed for local farmers in dry zone.
On the training day, U Kyawswar Win, green gram breeder, Daw Maw Maw Naing, Groundnut breeder from DAR gave a lecture on seed production of crops, plant protection, quality EGS production, post-harvest operation and seed quality control of each crop. Participants had chances of questions on their curious issues throughout the seed production process. They had shared disease management methodologies and application followed by a lecture on pest management methodologies and application.
After that Daw Mar Mar Lwin, Deputy Director from Seed Division, DOA also shared the definition of Early Generating Seed, EGS production and quality control of seed production and mandatory guidelines to produce quality seed production. Then, U Min Oo, Marketing Officer from WHH also contributed with necessary business approaches for seed producer groups during the event.
A total of 39 participants, 4 participants from Seed Division staff (DOA Mandalay Region), have improved skill in seed production and seed quality control with emphasis on EGS of Groundnut and Green gram crops. The training exposed the participants to put greater effort in characteristics of different varieties, quality seed production, post-harvest system as well as cost. The training also helped relationships among themselves and with the researchers (DAR) through the training and hopefully beyond the training.
