FOURTH NATIONAL SEED SECTOR PLATFORM MEETING

The fourth National Seed Sector Platform Meeting was hold with theme “Global Standards and Commitments” on 26th September, 2018 at Park Royal Hotel, Naypyitaw. The meeting was organized by Seed Division, Department of Agriculture with support of ISSD Myanmar Programme. The 34 participants from development partners, 24 participants from private sector and 42 participants from public sector attended the event.

Pathways for Developing the Seed Sector of Myanmar: A Scoping Study

The study presents an integrated assessment of Myanmar’s seed sector. The study includes an analyses on regulatory environment for seed production and sales; a characterization of Myanmar’s seed sector and seed systems; a landscape of current seed sector interventions; an analysis of three seed value-chains and Myanmar’s seed farm system; as well as business opportunities for the private sector.

Seed sector action agenda

The Action Agenda has been developed during a large public-private gathering in Nay Pyi Taw, on 4 April 2017. At the meeting there was high-level representation of the government, the private sector and development partners. The Action Agenda aims to divide tasks between support projects and presents a coordination structure for subsequent platform meetings and monitoring of progress.
